Just finished up this little box. Nothing to write home about but it was fun because it is all Veneer. Top is commercial-cut waterfall bubinga. Body is shop-cut tiger maple.

Finish on body and inside is BLO and shellac, finish on top is BLO and French Polish.

Please forgive the poor photography - I just don't seem t have it in me.

Beautiful work Larry. Did you use a vacuum bag for the veneer or cold press? Jim Pritchett

Thanks for the kind words guys - I really appreciate it.

Substrate for the veneer is 1/2" MDF for the top and some pretty ugly mahogony shorts that had lying around for the body. Bottom is some 1/4" BB ply that I pressed the tiger maple onto.

I used a vac-press for it and Unibond as the glue - only way to fly when doing veneer in my opinion.

Excellent job! I particularly like the edge veneer on the sides, or is that the mahogany? Hinges - Brusso?

And, on the photography, I think you did fine. The pics were clear and well lit.

Thanks for looking John. The strips on the bottom, top, and between the lid and the base are thin strips of bubinga that I had lying around. There is no mahagony showing anywhere on it.

The hinges are indeed Brusso. Good eye. Their stuff is top notch in my opinion but they sure don't give it away.

Excellent! To my eye, if you could put some curve in that, and maybe some bracket feet, it would be drop dead gorgeous.

Doug, thanks for the comment and I agree that it does need something else to be more than just a plain box made out of fancy wood . Also, to my eye, there are too many splines in the miters as well.

Looks great to my eye. Gotta be me some of that waterfall bubinga!

Larry -

Looks like you matched the two thicknesses of the mahogany edge strips to equal the same thickness of the keys (if I said that right???) -- Nice touch!

I see a lot of precision in that box - Nice (and I don't want to even attempt such a thing...)!
