I picked up an G0664 Grizzly Open End Wide Belt Sander at the Springfield tent sale. Last evening had a chance to try it out, got to say I'm impressed. I ordered some belts from http://www.econabrasives.com. (http://www.econabrasives.com/)
The belts are very easy to change and the tracking worked well. I tested it down stairs with out the DC hooked up. The test piece was 6" oak. I started with very light cuts to be sure I didn't over load the motor, but found I could take a full turn of the handwheel with each pass. My plan was to use the G0644 till I got the 37" G7217 up and running, then sell the G0644. But if I can make room up stairs in the shop I'll put it up there. There is no way I'm going to get the 2000+ pound G7217 up in the shop, so I'll have to cart wood up and down to sand it. Having the G0644 up stairs will save me trips on narrow stuff, wide glue ups will still need the 37". If I had knew the G0644 was that great of sander I would have bought one long ago, as I searched for a 37" that I could aford.
