Well, today I went to my favorite hardwood shop here in the Atlanta area.... Hardwoods, Inc.... I was shopping around to see what they had as it's been a while since I've been there.... I wound up getting a nice piece of Cocobolo, and a couple of nice cherry boards.....And...this fantastic piece of Morado... I didn't even know what Morado was.... and the guy couldn't find it in his computer so he gave it to me for $10 per board foot.... AND .... there was a big "2.0" written on it with chalk, so he assumed it was 2 board feet, didn't even measure it... got it home and measured it up and I calculate 3.89 board feet. It measures 48-3/4" long, 5-7/8" wide and 2" thick.
I read up on Morado as well and I understand it is used mainly as fret boards for stringed instruments....
Here's a picture of my $20 piece of wood..... gloat or no gloat?

Ed,
if that is 8/4, then that is a serious gloat!
What does it look like, wetted with mineral spirits? A lot darker?

Yes....it darkens up quite nicely. It is 8/4 and you can see in the pic that it is rough planed....

It's a rosewood that is more commonly known as Pau Ferro...very popular for fretboards and bridges with Brazillian and other rosewoods in short supply. I think the going price would be more like $20 per BF @ 4/4 but at 8/4 higher still.
A great buy I would say.
Peace,
Mark

Think you may be right, John! :D
Right now, I'm looking at this Bird's Eye Maple that I picked up in Minnesota.... It was only $7.00/board foot up there, it's $22.00/board foot down here.... (stealth gloat)
I'm looking really hard at that piece with the figured grain - match it up and get some sort of humidor out of it all.....
