This cypress bowl is 7" X 3" finished with danish oil and beall buffed. Just got a woodburner and this became my sketchbook, something to practice on.
Have only tried woodburning once, on Christmas Day when I was 8 years old and got a woodburner from an aunt (who always gave me impractical things for a kid my age). In less than 15 minutes I managed to burn my hand, dropped the woodburner on newspaper designed to protect the dining room table, started a fire and then the woodburner mysteriously disappeared. To this day I've never had the nerve to ask what happened to the woodburner and never moved the placemat that covered the burned place on the table.
I really like the work of Wally Dickerman, Molly Winton and Stephen Hatcher and long-term want to head in their direction. The idea for a Celtic Cross came from a daughter's necklace. I then tried stippling and after starting it had the idea to make the stippling follow the age rings of the bowl. It was all an experiment and a stretch.
