Ron,

Great set. Is that a Poly finish?

Ron,

No, this is two coats of Med CA and polished out with Tri-M-Ite polishing paper.

Ron,

Great looking pens... That wood looks great.

I'm curious about your finish.

I've just starting working with CA & BLO for a finish. I can put 10-12 coats on & I still get a finish that looks like a HUT liquid wax finish. The only way that I've got a finish to come out like yours is to use wipe on Poly.

I've never used WP and I don't do BLO.

I do dip in lacquer as an alternative.

I have a 'Bark' pen now I'm dipping and it's up to about 12 dips and still not all the voids are filled.

With CA I just sand the blank down and use 150 grit and a puddle of Med CA and make a slurry paste and fill any voids in the wood.

Sand down to wood and inspect and if any voids another slurry paste of Med CA.

Now I sand out to 600 grit and then I use 0000 Steel Wool to burnish the wood before applying the CA.

Two and at the most Three coats is all I ever use. and then I wet sand with Tri-M-Ite polishing paper and then I take some 2000 grit sandpaper and use the backside to polish with.
