I am looking for an auxiliry power switch for my router table - I guess bench dog went out of business - that was my first choice - due to the low profile. Can you guy's recommend an alternative and a source.

I did see one on amazon for about $50 but it showed a sellers name - for clarification, would I be buying it from amazon or is that seller a private party IE: ebay type transaction

Hi, are you looking for a switch to mount on your router table to turn the router on and off?

If so, a motor rated toggle switch would be fine.

Regards, Rod.

I can't help with the question, but I'd be surprised if Bench Dog was out of business since I just saw their booth at the AWFS fair in Las Vegas last week. Anyone got any proof of their demise?

Their site appears to be proceeding with business as usual: http://www.benchdog.com/

I use a standard Leviton switch outlet mounted in an electrical box.

and plug my router into it.

I have this switch on my router table:

http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=17401&filter=paddle%20switch

I bought two of them when they were on sale a few months back for about 20 bucks each. They're well made and come with a long cord.

I really like the Rockler switch also! I have them on 2 router tables. Very convenient, just bump with knee and off goes the router!

Another +1 on the Rockler, they are 15 amp. and have a very nice cord and plug on them. Mounting is very easy and they work great.

I have one on my router table and one on the shop vac that is under the bench.

I went to the web site and found my local distributor and they told me that they went bankrupt and that did not have a local rep anymore. If you go to some of the web sites that come up after you google bench dog they don't have any products available - maybe I'll try calling them direct

Thanks for all of the suggestions and I hope my info is wrong - They put out pretty good stuff

Ditto. Very reliable switch.

Last month I overheard a Woodcraft employee telling someone that Rockler had bought the Bench Dog brand name and product line, and would soon be the only source for Bench Dog products. Not sure how true that is, but thought I'd share.

The Bench Dog switch is being phased out which is why you've been having a hard time finding them. However, if you call Bench Dog they still have some available in their warehouse. 800.786.8902 Price is $49.99. They plan on replacing this switch with a new model in the future.

I also wanted to clarify the situation with Bench Dog and Rockler:

Rockler did buy Bench Dog a couple years ago out of bankruptcy and is operating the company as a separate entity. Bench Dog products are available through many dealers, which can be found on their website (http://www.benchdog.com/wheretobuy.cfm). Rockler has no intention of becoming the only place to buy Bench Dog products and is actively seeking to grow it's dealer base (hence the Bench Dog booth at AWFS).

In addition, Rockler has been funding development of new Bench Dog products and intends to maintain its reputation as a high-quality, premium woodworking tool supplier.

Thank You Scott
I will take a look at the web site. The bench dog switch is the best solution for my needs. Thanks for the info- I have several bench dog products that work as advertised - glad to see that they are still out there
