Brother asked me to build him a vanity/medicine cabinet for one wall. Simple but no mirror just two inset doors, and on the bottom a towel rack for hand towels. I could easily use a 3/4" - 1" dowel rod and paint it but I would rather not make it permanent. I've used brass closet rods before, cut to length with the end hardware which makes them easily removable. Anyone know of something similar for this application, scaled down? Thanks.

Use a dowel or square rod set in u-shaped cups. Place rare earth magnets in the ends of the rod and in the side of the cabinet to hold the dowel in place, but allow it to be removed. You could also hold it in with a coouple of brass screws.

Do they sell these cups in smaller sizes for this application? I thought most closet rods were larger, 1-1/4"? Didn't see anything rockler or woodcraft was carrying to match.
