I just went to use my saw and when I push the start button it makes a major whining noise and hesitates a little before starting. then quites down. However when ripping a piece of 3/4 cherry it starts to whine/squeal. Not sure what is going on the belt looks good.

If this helps it is a steel city saw.1.75hp cabinet saw. model #35600.

Any ideas what to do.

thanks
Mike

Are your pulleys tight?

The pulleys seem tight to me. I took tension off the belt and started it up and it made no noise. I am guessing now that the belt is actually slipping but not positive. I hope to hear from more experts.

What do I do about that. Not sure there is a way to tighten this as the motor weight is waht puts tension on the belt. Guess might just need a new belt then.

Disconnect the belt and check the blade is spinning freely.
If there's no problem there, rub the belt with a dry cake of soap.

As was stated, take the belt off and make sure the arbor is turning free.

If so then order a Link Belt and I think you will be ready to go.

I know some people thing they are useless but I have one on my Jet table saw, Jet band saw and I also had one on my old Craftsman table saw and they have all work out very well.

Steel City uses a flat belt Bill.
But since it's now a workday, do call Steel City. Great customer service there.

Well wanted to let you know I figure it out with the help of CS at Steel City. It seems the key that fits in the slot on the pulley and the arbor on the motor came out and the set screw was rubing on the arbor making the screech. Once I found the key in the saw dust. Took out the motor and pressed the key in with and put the pulley back in. then aligned the pulleys mounted the motor. it is running as good as new now.
