First, thank you to all of the great posts on my set up, they made the install very easy!

I finally got the parts in and purchased and am up and running, but the motor makes a high pitched whine when running. It seems to be power related and not speed related. (Stays the same at all speeds or frequencies.) Once the FM50 stops the power output the whine stops. Motor is running forward correctly and I did check the programing to make sure it was supposed to run forward.

Could I have something else wire wrong? Or is this just normal with this set up or three phase motors? The POT I have is working correctly, a little too sensitive but working correctly.

Will people please explain what something is?
What is a FM50-201 46-450?

I had to go to his profile and previous posts to find out that it is a Rockwell Lathe model number. Not everyone wants to be a detective though.

Sorry about that, it is a 46-450 Rockwell/Delta Lathe and a Teco FM50-201 220VAC single phase to 3 phase 220V

Try kicking the carrier freq up a little at a time. This should really make hardly noticeable.

Oh yeah, in case you dont have the manual (download one) its F_12 set to 10 or more.

What Alex said. However, you may never get rid of all the whine. Remember, though they run at different frequencies just fine on a VFD, induction motors were designed for 60Hz.

I did not change the carrier frequency from factory default of 5. I will try that. May be a dumb question, but what is the carrier frequency?

Otherwise the whine is normal for this set up and no known problems? No magic smoke out of the box?

Changed it to 8 and worked like a charm. Thank you!
