In continuing my porch discussion, I am at the point of laying out the new railings to duplicate the original ones on the house. I have the top railing figured out so all the attachment points are pretty much hidden underneath.
The bottom rail in the picture below is what I am working on. I was wonder if drilling the screw holes from the side (Pocket type) and covering with a piece of molding as shown, would be the best attachment method? It is very close to the original design.
I would screw up thru for the spindle attachment, then mount the bottom rail to the bottom plate as shown.
Any other ideas would be helpful... :)
