I have admired Curt Fuller's lidded, flat top vessels and decided to attempt that form. Sadly, I did not capture the elegant line of Curt's work so this is a somewhat feeble immitation (but it was fun to make). Body is local ash-juniper (cedar) and the lid is a leftover from 4 pieces of cherry boards that were laminated together about 20 years ago for something else. About 3" x 7" with lacquer finish. C. & C. are welcome.

I'm new here, but....

....Am I missing something. Is this like the emperors new clothes? It's lovely. Where is it?

That is beautiful Richard. It is so thin, I can see right through it.

This may be the thinnest turning I have ever seen!

Thanks guys. I really appreciate your comments. But my photo is so small I can hardly see it. Maybe this one is larger.

Ah yes... That resizing did it! ;)

Very nice, I like the grain (sapwood?) of the juniper.

Thanks again y'all. Ash-juniper (cedar) is ubiquitous in this area and is considered a trash tree that has displaced other native species. I was surprised at how nicely it turns, at least end grain, and sands to a smooth finish without hills and valleys between growth rings like pine. Will have to try some more of it, at least for "craft show" type items.

Nice piece Richard. I like the tall form of this box. The sapwood compliments the heartwood very nicely. Good job.

Richard -- Very nice.
Dave Drickhamer gave me a chunk of juniper when I was up in Milwuakee last. I've not had the time to do anything with it. Seeing your piece I can't wait to see what I can do.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your support.

Chris, do you know what variety of juniper you have? There are numerous different kinds. Our local stuff has a rather convoluted trunk, often multi-trunked, and relatively few large trees among the millions of them. Hope yours turns out nice.
