Question for yall Coloradoans or anyone familiar with it. Have you used the stuff before and where do you get it from? I found a few places on the web but have nothing other than their website to go by for information. Colorado is a pretty special place to the family as my grandfather was a Park Ranger on the Grand Lake side of Rocky. Thus I though I might use some of the stuff for xmas presents and such. Plus it would give me another reason to come up. Thanks for the help.

I lived in Gunnison until recently, and I made a few items out of beetle kill pine. A friend of mine made all of his doors, window trim, base, and kitchen cabinet trim out of it, and it looked absolutely stunning with just a clear coat, no stain.

Here's where we bought ours:

Mountain Valley Lumber, ‎ (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=lumber+saguache+co&vps=1&jsv=166d&sll=33.109964,-96.915415&sspn=0.008519,0.019205&ie=UTF8&latlng=13930769180604046869&ei=dd9cSomQC4LMM4Xp9PEB&sig2=RXNq2jKA2D1_cboMZyZJvw&cd=1)46231 County Road X, Saguache, CO‎, (719) 655-2400‎. It is inexpensive, and they'll let you sort through boards to find ones with lots of color.

If you keep an eye on the Denver Craigslist, there are businesses selling the beetle-kill pine in various forms, from time to time at least.

I've seen listings for the stuff sawn into boards, 2"x4"s, wall paneling, flooring and all sorts of other things. I haven't yet tried building anything from it though.
