Our local woodturning club has taken on the task of building a treadle lathe and a spring (bow) lathe for public demonstartions to increase interest in woodturning. I'm in the committee to get this done. Does anyone have any plans for either one?

I actually have an old treadle lathe in my store...it dates from about 1880 and is made from cast like an old sewing machine...I can take pics if you like

Here are two web links, both in England:

http://members.lycos.co.uk/handforged/polelathe.html

and in the next one, select Plans from the frame on the left:

http://www.bodgers.org.uk/

For reading, you could look at Drew Langsner's book, The Chairmaker's Workshop, or Mike Abbott's book, Green Woodworking.

I think Mike Abbott's book has the most detailed plans. That's what I used to build mine.

Terry, thanks for the links. I'll see if I can find the book at the library. Thanks again.
