About 2 months ago I got some very nice Madrone burl and Redwood burl. This is one of the bigger pieces of Madrone that I've finished so far. It measures 10-3/4" by 3-7/8" by 1/4", I finished it with several coats of antique oil and than buffed. I boiled this bowl for 3 hours to stabilize it.
I have a nice Redwood burl one also that I'll post later.
Any comments welcome.

Frank,
That is drop dead gorgeous wood/grain. Great job turning it - how long after boiling before you can turn it?

Wayne,
I built a drying cabinet using a 30 watt light bulb, it seems to speed the drying time. I roughed this bowl out about 8 weeks ago. The honey locust took about 6 weeks and the redwood took about 4 weeks to dry to around 6%. I won't finish turn anything until it's under 10%. I boil all my pieces that have strong figure, especially burls. I have a large pot so I can boil 4 or 5 pieces at a time. By doing this I've cut my losses from warping and checking to almost zero.

I find that footed bowls often look out of balance, or a little "dumpy..."
This piece is elegant and balanced! I really like the form and the finish.

Hi Dave,
Thanks, sorry I missed the meeting at your place. I'll make a meeting one of these months. I've got more pieces I'll post in the next few weeks.
