I am thinking of building a work table into one wall of my home office. I would use a plastic laminate top with an oak front edge and oak molding around the back and sides. Can I buy PL in one piece 30 inches by 13 1/2 feet? Am I asking for trouble if I have a joint in my substrate but not in the laminate?

Longest sheet *Formica* brand laminate I have ordered is 5'x12'.

Best way to find out if longer is available, is to call a local supplier of Formica or WilsonArt in your area and ASK!

The longest laminate I've seen is 12 feet. Seaming it is standard practice.

There's no issue with a seam in the substrate. Of course, I'm presuming the substrate is sound. For instance, you shouldn't expect to build a counter 13 feet long and support it only at the ends. You must have supports under at least parts of it. Put the substrate seams on top of the supports.

Laminate doesn't come any longer than 12 feet. You'll have to seam the laminate and join the substrate with a scab on the bottom. Piece of cake!
