I don't know about the trailer ball jig (wish I had thought of that!), but I recently did a search on work positioners. The Jerry Rig looks good but it is SO expensive. I finally found one at Rockler that is sturdy and allows me to position the work in a wide variety of positions. The one from Rockler is designed to be mounted under the edge of a workbench, but it can be clamped on top or held in a bench vise. It retails for $75 and Rockler has a lot of sales so you might be able to get it cheaper.

Charlie & Vic thank you for your replies. The Jerry-rig is way too expensive
for my retirement income. It looks very well made but for the life of me I
do not understand the $400 plus price tag.
I have ordered a 2 inch trailer ball with a 5/8 female thread which is due about 7-17. I have a design in mind and will start construction next weekend.

Yes...I know the Jerry_Rigs are steep which is why I bought their basic vise which was about $230. It isn't a "ball" model, but it does everything I need it to do. That's this one:

But, some of the accessories can be pricey for this model too.
I'm also looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
