Sounds like you've been sitting in the "moaning chair". I find myself there often, looking at a mangled piece of wood, wondering how much "per board foot" I just wasted.

Kiln dried hardwood does burn the best, according to the LOML. I wouldn't know; I can't watch it.

I feel for ya bud. I've watched some really pretty looking firewood burn and start fires in the woodstove over the last few winters. :o

Got about two chords out of the two trees. I saved a couple crotch pieces that have some potential.

Gonna go rent a splitter and get some more work done this afternoon.

Man - that looks like a lot of work! Plus - living where you do - this time of year must be hotter than heck! I just when out this morning and split some wood cause the temp was 62* and wanted to take advantage of it! Can't imagine doing that kind of work in real heat! Guess it is a little easier when you have 'helpers'!

That's quite the bar on your chainsaw! The trees up here do not get large enough to use a bar that size - but we might be able to cut 2 at once!

Hope you get to enjoy your weekend!

Yeah a bit warm this time of year Steve, didn't hit the hundred mark but got close. Right now it 94 outside, not bad as long as there is a breeze.

The bar on the big saw is a 32" 404/.63. Just bought a new chain for it and it was $56 :eek:
But it cuts real nice;)

I didn't see the bother with renting a splitter just yet. Minimum rental is 4 hrs and I only have about an hour or two worth of splitting to do. I'll wait till I drop another tree or two before I spend the coin on a rental.

Looks like a fun day. Gotta note that your buddy likes to live dangerously--not a shred of safety equipment to be seen. Does he also cross cut on a table saw without a miter gauge or use a grinding wheel without safety glasses?

Yep!
We live dangerously Tony:D
I figgured someone would have to comment..

Its an Oak Curtis, I thought these diciduous oaks in these parts were Black oak but a friend of mine says they are blue oak. No matter realy, they burn real well when they have six months of summer heat to dry. I have a lot of live oak too, it will burn green.

I was dissapointed with the punky stuff I found in one piece I thoughtwasaburl..
