When I was cutting up some apricot logs, I found a round protrusion on one, thought I had a nice little bowl sized burl, about 7" across and maybe 4" deep, so I cut it off. Went to turn it tonight, and it was just about all bark. Turned it down to about 4" x 1.5" and still hardly had any wood showing. Drat!

Apricot is lovely and finding a burl in it sounds almost impossible. Do fruit trees burl by the way?
You may be able to produce a burled toothpick! That would be fancy!

i have apple burls. next time, take the bark off before you cut it so that you make sure you are going to have wood to work with instead of just bark
