The photo is of a small router that I made a while back. The body is about 5.5 inches wide and about 2 inches tall. I have had the maple on hand since the late '70's. The iron is about .25 inches wide. As you can see, I didn't spend much time on detailing the plane. It works and I have already dropped it several times. The finish is equal parts of BLO, spar varnish and mineral spirits. I have found some round toits (grin).
A friend of mine drew the plane up and I reduced the size to 80%. My friend and I cut 2 full sized ones out of walnut, he has both of them. I made a hollow mortise cutter that is .510 X .410 to cut the mortise, I pushed the tool with a flypress. For the larger routers I forged special screws to hold the iron in place.
