Maple Burl Bowl W/Pedestal.....

This small piece is turned from a burl scrap. It's 4 inches in dia.

The bowl is turned with very thin walls which I think called for a slender pedestal to give the piece a fragile look. At first I thought that it might be too thin, but after looking at it a bit, I like it. Friends have given mixed opinions. Getting finials and pedestals just right to fit the piece can be a touchy thing.

Absolutely beautiful Wally! The piece does indeed come across as Fragile! I also like the natural edge on the goblet. The jagged edge contrasts nicely with the smooth outside of the goblet. Very nice work! Thank you for sharing!

It's another winner. I think the weight of the pedestal compliments the bowl very nicely. I like how you preserved the natural edge of the burl. The natural edge, in contrast with the refined, delicate lines of the bowl and pedestal, give the piece a magical quality. It's the kind of thing you'd expect to find in the castle of a fairy princess, where she'd use it and a jewel encrusted golden spoon to eat her daily helping of ice cream before going to bed.
