View Full Version : First hat attempt - batter's helmet, really

here's my first attempt at a hat - turned out to be a batter's helmet, i'd guess; almost came out as a 'pith helmet'. this is a little too small to be worn, and the walls are too thick to bend to an oval, so it's just gonna be an art piece when finished; i'll post another pic. sure does take a big blank to make a hat; i don't even have one large enough to make a cowboy hat. maple, turned pretty green from a piece of wood i got from the local dump. the blank yielded two other chunks, for future hollow forms. critique / comment as you will. mike

Mike - it does remind me of a batter's helmet! I've seen a few turned hats online but never one of these! That's cool! Looking forward to seeing the finished version!
