I don't want to tear down my DJ20 just to get the bearing numbers! Anybody got the (2) different bearing size/numbers?

Delta parts list only gives their part number! No generic bearing reference! Grrrrr! AND, a Google search turned up nothing either! Such a Well Kept Secret!

Thanks for any info you can provide!

maybe the bearing supplier can give you the information?

A belt and bearing supply house should be able to cross the number over.

I'm pretty sure Chip is asking for someone who knows the number, to share it.

Sorry, you misunderstand. A DELTA part number only orders their specific part. It has NO relationship to the size or generic number of the part. Delta part number

1313116 or 422290170005 means nothing to a bearing supplier!

I am needing to find out the exact bearing sizes for the DJ20. For example, the Grizzly G0490 uses 6004-2RS and 6005-2RS bearings. Any supplier knows what that means!

I Must assume it's all a PLOY by DELTA to force you to buy their parts, unless you are savvy enough to cross-reference the size of generic parts like bearings, belts, nuts, bolts, washers, set screws, roll pins, ETC.!

Powermatic and Grizzly, among others, give the generic information in their parts lists. Perhaps they are banking on the fact many woodworkers have no clue what an M8-1.25x50 is! (hex bolt) OR a 6204-2NSE (bearing)

Steve, it's the *original* DJ-20. Model 37-350 (Type 1) All DJ-20 models (37-350, 37-365X, 37-680 & 37-680X) use the same bearings, according to Delta Parts list J-3C, dated 09-13-04.

No changeover #'s yet. I've emailed a friend that has a DJ-20.
He's never replaced his bearings, so no help there.

Chip, I always buy an extra set of bearings with every machine, and I have a set for my DJ 20 in the shop. If you still need it I will run that down for you.

Larry, I would be very appreciative of the DJ20 bearing #'s. Nobody else has come up with the info yet. : (

Its hard telling what is wearing out faster, my mind or my body.......

Thank you for your effort Larry!

I am amazed that it has been this difficult to come up with bearing numbers for a very popular machine like the DJ20. Perhaps these just do not wear out, thus nobody in these forums has had the task of replacing bearings!

My purpose is to find out if the DJ20 cutterhead and Grizzly's G0490 share the same size bearings. Grizzly's H8803 8" Shellix cutterhead is now on sale for $325 rather than $449 from Byrd/Holbren. IF the swap is head for head, I'm GONNA BUY IT!

Can't you go to Byrd and cross reference to see if the heads are the same for both machines?

NO Specific info is provided by either Byrd or Holbren sites. I sent Holbren an email rather than fill out their lengthy demographic form to get on a mailing list.

I could have disassembled and reassembled my DJ20 by now! Sheeesh!

Sometimes that's what you've got to do. I had to do it on the motor for my PM 1200 drill press. I opened up one end and got the bearing size, then ordered two of them. It turned out that the other end had a different bearing size. Oops. Fortunately, the leftover bearing was only $3.

Rebuilt my DJ-20 cutter head bearings (older model made in Brazil) and use the following generic bearing numbers: 6005VV and 6004VV. I ordered them through my tool dealer and got NSK bearings. Paid just under $20 for both. Hope that is what you are looking for.

I have one NTN 6004 LE and one NSK 6005 DU.

Thanks a BUNCH guys! That info gives me what I need! Appears the Delta DJ20 and Grizzly G0490 bearings are exactly the same!

outboard end 6004 20x42x12 mm, pulley end 6005 25x47x12 mm.

Cutterhead diameters are *almost* same. Delta is 3-3/8"d. Griz is 3-5/16"d.

I'm thinkin the Griz Shelix head will do just fine at $325, as opposed to $449 from Holbren!

I am new with this so I don't know if my previous response went through where it was supposed to.

Anyways, I am in the process of replacing the cutter heard on my my older DJ-20 with a Byrd Shelix Cutterhead.

The Online Grizzly Catalogue on Page 48 lists the H8803 8" Shelix hard as being compatible with the DJ-20 and the Grizzly G0490. Go online and get the manual for the G0490 and you will find that the front bearing is listed as a 6004-2RS and the back one as a 6005-2RS.

This lines up with what I have observed in the outer race etching on the front bearing which is poor in quality. I don't have the back one out yet. It appears to indicate 5004-2RS1 but there is no such listing when I search the internet. There is however a listing for 6004-2RS so I am assuming the poorly scribed 5 is really a 6.
