Does any one know where to find information about creating wooden vessels without using a lathe?

That looks like it's made the same way a blank is made for a segmented turning. That is, each "layer" or "ring" is made and then glued to the lower one. Using that technique, the inside can be made since you can sand, saw, or hand shape each one before it's glued on.

The outside can be shaped via sanding after it's all made. If the rings are sized well, the outside (and inside) won't require much sanding (or shaping) - just the same as any glue joint.

But I don't see any advantage of not using a lathe to make those. It can be done, but it would be easier and more "true" using a lathe and the techniques used for segmented turning.

That's my guess.

I wouldn't waste your time and frustration attempting to make a round vessel without a lathe. A setup with tools will only cost about $500 and is useful for things other than making bowls.
