The setup:

Frame and panel Shaker doors using stub tenons made with a tongue and groove router bit set
Rails/stiles will be 3/4" thick solid wood
Plywood panels, 1/2" thick rabbeted to fit into the grooves (see pic below)
Tongue and groove set cuts a 7/16" deep groove (of variable thickness)

The question:

I will be gluing the plywood panels. Should I cut my rabbet on the plywood panel so that I leave a little less than 7/16" protruding? In other words, is it a good idea, when the panel is assembled, to have a small space between the groove and the end of the rabbeted part of the panel? I was thinking it would help prevent glue squeeze out. Also, I'd rather be a bit short than long since if the rabbeted portion were longer than 7/16" there would be a small reveal/gap that would look funny. Does that make sense?

Personally, I leave a glue well in pretty much everything to avoid hydraulic push back.
