I have included below a link to a v-e-r-y l-o-n-g article on building this smoother kit. It documents the steps I followed, the modifications required, and the construction. It covers three sessions in my workshop. You will either find it riveting .. or fall asleep! :)

Ron Brese makes wonderful planes, and his kits are just as great. This plane is based on Karl Holtey's S11 ...

That's the Holtey by the way ... do you think I would show you mine and spoil the surprise? :)

Looking extremely pretty. Ebony piece came out really nicely.

Is it comfortable to grip?

Hi Sam

It is very comfortable once one gets used to the weight. You would be amazed how heavy such a small plane feels in the hand. This is an advantage here.

One additional tuning tip is to round or bevel the rear edges of the blade as one's hand will slide onto it.

The pictures do not do the plane justice. The combinatioon of black ebony and shiny steel was very difficult to photograph. The plane is much more striking in the flesh.

Very nice work,Derek. You need to send it to me to make sure that the chips flow out properly North of the equator (sort of like the toilet water goes the other way) It could be critical for marketing your planes World wide !!!
