I think it oak as it it prevelant in the area..

I took the family to the Merced river again and this was on the beach. Its about 200# or so, maybee 250 and I could drag it up the 50' cliff :eek:

Dont know if I want to cut it open or just make something with it as-is.
I'm thinking it would make a nice floor lamp or something..
Its got some real nice color to it and looks to be a burl of sorts at the base.

I think it's real pretty, but your family day at the river looked even better.

It seems to be trunk base to me, the center of the rootball. I was cutting through one of those with a chain saw a few years back and found a two inch dia. rock somewhere in the middle. That saw blade wouldn't cut warm butter after that, and I might have been lucky the blade didn't snap. Be careful and slow if you cut it.
