I was working on a small bedside table for my daughter and was having trouble getting my block plane to do the job on some endgrain I picked up my mujingfang high angle smoother out of frustration and it cut the end grain like butter destroying everything I thought I knew.

I have used some of my Stanley/Bailey bench planes on end grain. As long as the blade is sharp and taking a light cut, it will do fine.

I used to use a HNT Gordon Trying Plane (60 degree bed) on the shooting board.

High angles just do not cut as cleanly as low angles.

That is the same design as my smoother only longer.
