I tried Sketchup before was frustrated by it and gave up. It is a fault of mine that if I can’t pick something up within about a half hour my frustration level outweighs my need for it. What a difference it is when someone shows you how.

I discovered this link on Marc Spagnolo’s site and was quite simply blown away. Rob Cameron’s tutorials at Sketchup for Woodworkers are a must see for anyone looking to try Sketchup. I’ve searched the Creek because I can’t believe that there wasn’t something here about it, if there is please forgive the dupe.

I don’t know if I’ll actually sell my drafting table but it’s crossed my mind after taking Rob’s tutorials and by the way you can download them for future reference.

Moderators please move this if you feel it is in the wrong forum.

Thanks Andy,

I will check out the tutorials when I have some time. I, like you, got too frustrated trying to use sketchup. At this point I don't know how any one uses it. I hope the tutorials will work, it would be nice to be able to use sketchup.

It's cool Paul right down to how to do dovetails, sorry about the link it works now.

Finally found some good stuff, it seems everyone has been using the acronym SU, if you search cutlist plugin you'll find more strings, there's a good one by Jeff Wright.

Download links are in this string, look for Steve Racz http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=51541&highlight=cutlist+plugin

That is a good place to start, I also like this one really well. Not all of it is woodworking but it all really good and I have learned a lot form it.

Thanks for the links.
I have some time off from work right now and have been playing with SU the last few nights. I have messed with other CAD programs and gave up. I can tell already this is much better to get a handle on.

Thanks again.

Excellent Bill that looks really interesting, I wouldn't have thought this possible a couple of hours ago. I can't figure out if version 7 is easier than the version prior or why I had such difficulty before, but it's not just me apparently.

How odd - I was just starting (re-re-restarting, actually) the process of learning SU this afternoon and found most of the tutorials you guys mentioned.

I went directly to YouTube, searched for "sketchup woodworking" and got some great stuff. I saw a guy design a simple table and bookshelves, including some nice details, in under 10 minutes. He didn't do it with enough detail to do exploded diagrams, but for overall design purposes there's no way I could draw as fast or as well as he worked SU. He convinced me that SU is definitely the way to go for designing and, eventually, full-blown diagrams.

A great place for tutorials is http://go-2-school.com (http://go-2-school.com/). I was also very frustrated until I discovered this site.

Try youtube, there are hundreds of videos. Also try Google Kketchup Tutorials, I've found some really helpful stuff there.
