Just finished this, it is from the most recent issue of Wood magazine. The entire bookcase is veneered, top, bottom, sides and shelves. Just need to pick up the glass for the doors. I'm actually pretty proud of this, I think it's my best work to date.

Let me know what you guys think.

WOW! Looks great! the figure is outstanding! Certainly beats anything I've made! The white banding helps to define the shape of the piece. I like it a lot!

Jay, that looks great. The proportions are very good, and the veneer really makes this a showpiece. Did you use a vacuum press on the veneer?

You certainly are justified in being proud of this one! Extremely nice work.

That is one of the nicer bookcases I have seen Jay. Beautiful veneer and very good craftsmanship. You are justified to be proud of this. I believe evertone here would be proud to claim that as theirs.

Great job. I love the walnut and how you bookmatched the sides and top. What finish did you use? I love the color of the walnut.

I may have to pick up a copy of this magazine. That is some awesome work and you should be proud. The inlay really highlights the walnut. Give us some feedback on how you did the veneering and inlay work if you don't mind.

You should be proud, Jay. I can't see the base all that well as my eyes aren't what they used to be but.. I will have a look at the picture in PW to see it more in detail..

Beatiful job...

Thanks everyone, I did use a vacuum press, the substrate is MDF. The finish was just boiled linseed oil, seal coat of shellac and then Target Coatings EM6000.

How did you affix the glass inside of the doors? Was it inserted into dados before the glue up?

Beautiful piece. That veneer is magificent, and the light banding finishes it perfectly.

I'm going to have to look into a subscription to "Wood."

The glass isn't in yet, it will be held into a recess on the inside with some molding.

Beautiful job on the bookcase Jay.

Quick question if I may.
Were the final finishing coats applied with a sprayer or were they brushed on?

Great piece again....
