the pictutures were all taken this morning at the same time, but for some reason some of them are drak and some are light

I think it was just the over cast, on some of the pictures the flash went off. Very nice work, did the worm holes cause any difficulty while turning?

Curtis - Congrats on your first commission! Nice work! Interesting wood - with all the worm-holes on the one side! I am sure your customer is going to love it!

Hope your finger is doing better by now!

he loved it. yeah my finger is doing fine, i still wear the plastic splint while i turn though just in case. but it gets filled with sawdust. the worm holes only create a small problem while finishing. i blew them all out so there wouldnt be any dust to mess with, but since i used a shop rag (one of those heavy duty paper towels in a box) the holes shreded the rag slightly and left a little bit of fuzz on the finish. but that was fixed by buffing it with a rough washcloth

Looks nice. A couple of questions. What type of wood?
How far is it hollowed inside and what did you use to hollow?

the wood is poplar that is at least 100yrs old from my church, possibly older. it is hollowed the whole way. the main portion of the form is about 1/4-3/8ths thickness, and at the collar/top part thingy where it comes up, there is a spot that is just about 1/2'' thick. i used a bowl gouge. took about 1.5 hours to turn, maybe less i keep forgeting to take a timer to the garage with me. i am working on making a set of captured hollowing tools
