The blade brake on my 6-year-old Makita miter saw stopped working.
I fixed it by cleaning the commutator with emery cloth.
To get at the commutator you remove the brushes, then remove the 4 screws holding the motor assembly onto the saw. Then pull off the motor assembly. Do NOT forget to remove the brushes first!
