Good fortune is shining too brightly on me not to share. ;) The first three shots show what I am about to receive. I was so taken by Jameel's version of this that I ask Ron to work his magic. This will go nicely with it's little brother that Ron crafted for me a while ago--another creative collaboration with Jameel. Ron's earlier work is in the family photo uncreatively entitled something old, something new.

Good for you! I looked at all the other photos, look like a good collection you have! Are you actualy using the tools or you are a collector or both? I'd like a few of these in my shop!
realy nice collection!

Or, you could have named it, "My little driveby gloat" (with apologies to fans of My Little Pony). Lovely tools, both the new ones and the ones with mileage on them.

I'd imagine you could call me a little of both. I definitely use my tools (if you look closely at Ron's small plane, you will see finger prints--no white gloves for me). The plough planes are just a curiosity for me, as I have the veritas version for dados and such, not too much into beading or other edge treatment--I just like the looks of the old tools (so that's probably the collecting part). Ron's stuff is great to view, but begs to be held and used. Seems to me to defeat the intent of the creator's efforts if it sits on a shelf.

Sandy that's a nice collection of user tools you have there. The Siegley Plow with all the cutters was certainly a nice addition to the group.

I do have a couple of customers that buy my tools as objects of art, however they all get to make shavings and leave behind some very nice surfaces before they leave the shop. None are ever totally deprived of doing what they were created to do and even these customers take a few shavings with them now and again just because, as they put it, it's fun and enjoyable.

Of course when you know a tool is going to be used mostly for display purposes it gives you some leeway to approach building that tool a bit differently. You can make tools with an all brass body and you can bring the metal bits of those tools to the higher polish than would be practical on a user intended plane. They're still just as functional because you never know who may end up with the tools in the future, they may become a user tool when they change hands, however having a plane with the side polished to where one could see themselves in the side is not the ideal condition for a user tool.

You do very tight work,Ron. Extremely careful sculpting everywhere. I used to make tools for collectors myself, and know what you mean. Thing is,these days, tools that are in that sort of price range tend to end up in collections, rather than in work shops.

That's what happens when you bring one of Ron's small smoothers home. You just have to have one of the big ones.:D
Congratulations.

I plead guilty to that charge, Doug! I initially ordered one of Ron's small smoothers, and before I knew it, I had a beautiful 875 model.
