Many of the people in IA and MN think they have gold plated turds. Here is another one. What a deal a delta contractor saw for ONLY $850

Paul, Clearly that guy is from Minnesota:D! No one from Iowa would ask $850 for that saw. He probably moved to Iowa to seek enlightenment;):D. Be patient, it takes a while for the Minnesota-itis to wear off.

:) I got a good laugh out of that one. Thanks! This almost ranks up there with the healing rods.

Believe me, you folks don't have the market cornered. We have more than our fair share here in Michigan.

And in Toronto, I'm surprised the word vintage wasn't used at least once.

That vise Looks like a large Wilton and new cost on it is close to $1000 or more depending on the model. It looks like it could be cleaned up and used so the price may not be bad unless you had to pay for shipping on top of the $200.

I saw that posting and laughed. Not too long ago I saw two ads in the Marion craigslist for a craftsman 80s contractor saw for $500 FIRM and craftsman same era RAS for $500 FIRM. I think both ended up remaining firmly in the owners possession.

I've noticed it a lot in Iowa ads where people want 90% or more of new price on their very used item.

We get them all the time here in Philly as well. There was a guy about a year ago who wanted $10,000 USD for beat up old toolbox just because it was a "Harley Davidson Edition" which meant that it had a Harley sticker on it. Thing about this guy is that he would post it every day and after a while people started flagging him and he responded by posting every 30 minutes. This went on for months.

Most frequently used words in the tool section in Philly CL are: antique, industrial strength, and the winner -- heavy duty. 99.9% is worthless crap.

Hello,
You think CL is bad?

Try the local real estate market ;).

A guy in my town had a C-List ad for a "complete" woodshop with lumber for $10,000. I looked at the add and it seemed like he started to get into the hobby in a big way. Not much machinery but really a lot of wood that he would not separate. I imagine he still has it.

This guy has been posting this air hose every 2-3 days for the last YEAR! If it wasn’t for the fact that he lives ~25 miles away, I’d buy it just to shut him up.

David, I think it may be a Columbian rather than Wilton. Wilton's usually have the sealed screw assembly. I agree on the new vise cost. Even it that vise is an old Coulmbian it's still a bargain to the right person. Of course, if it says anything other than "Made in USA" on it, he's out of his mind, no matter what brand it is.

Pictured below is a vise that my father purchased in 1946 shortly before he died. I was eight years old at the time. The description below is for a similar vise.

Steve,
You are right, I didn't look close enough and thought the the vice shaft was round like a Wilton. I had never heard of Columbian but the one Posted by Charles K looks more like the original photo and looks quite sturdy.

Here a guy has a Delta 22-540 for $225. but last week there was a Rockwell (Delta) center pivot 12" RAS for $190. Took four days to sell. I replied on the fifth day, and was told I was second responder. This saw currently sells for $2700, +tax and shipping, bringing total to just over three grand. Go figure. Table saw in original add does appear to have cast iron wings, which add about $150 to selling price. So a hundred dollar saw, plus $150 makes it about $250, if my math is correct.

We have those 90% of retail idiots around here too. So I thought I should start posting all kinds of stuff up on c-list. Take a picture of some old firewood, some rotted framing lumber, a lawn mower that has been left outside for a year and maybe some old roofing. Sell it for $500 "firm".

"Up for sale is a pile of my junk. This is top quality junk and I will not separate it. You must pick it up by tomorrow at noon. Bring help, it's heavy! $500 firm."

I have pretty much stopped reading craigslist. I determined that I was making $1/hr by the time I found that one smoking deal for something that I actually needed when I needed it.

Here's another one for you... Think this is the same planer I bought used for about $350, except the one I got was in better condition...
