...can I automatically exclude all the Engraver Forum posts? If so, that would be worth at least $10.

Todd, each forum is assigned a number - 1,2,3 etc.
This is the link that I use for the SMC forums that I am interested in.

http://www.sawmillcreek.org/search.php?do=getnew&include=3,4,10,12,16,39,40,29,38,44

Try it, you might like it.

Now fork over the $6 :D

So Bruce, care to share how you created the custom search?

I got six bucks;)

And Todd, why the exclusion?

Mark,

IN this... http://www.sawmillcreek.org/search.php?do=getnew&include=3,4,10,12,16,39,40,29,38,44

the numbers 3, 4 , 10,12,15,39, 40, 29, 38, 44 are the numbers assigned to some of the forums.....

Click on SawmillCreek....then select a forum....if you look at the address line on your browser you will see a number assigned to the forum you clicked on...... each forum has it's own "id number"....

you take the command above...remove the numbers and put in the numbers of the forums for which you want to get a "New Post"

Ken, if you notice the url is truncated in your post.. i.e after .../search.p ya get a few... and then 39,40,29, etc

http://www.sawmillcreek.org/search.p...39,40,29,38,44

and in the adress bar after clicking I get:

http://www.sawmillcreek.org/search.php?searchid=3094648

i.e. ...php?searchid=3094648

I would rather create the search rather than edit the one you created.

Thats good for a buck and a half though;)

Mark,

Copy my truncated link and paste it into the address bar. You will then see the full length address and you can make your own by using it as a pattern.

Ahhh! I see and I learn...getnew and "&" include....
The missing links:)

edit...lol^^ it was truncated...

Lets see if it does that when I remove the 'http//www'

....sawmillcreek.org/search.php?do=getnew&include=3,4,10,12,16,39,40,29,38,44 (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/search.php?do=getnew&include=3,4,10,12,16,39,40,29,38,44)

I just visit each of the forums in which I am interested, and view only those threads with new posts in which I am interested. I can scan the whole creek for any new posts (highlighted) of interest in a matter of 30 seconds, and come back to whatever threads drew my interest.

Why do you guys get ALL new posts?

Matt Meiser

Because there's so many forums. I rarely use the all link though. I use Bruce's method.

As to why exclude some forums--more of a time thing. I can pop in, see a page or two of new posts scan through them and go on. With all, the list is 2-4 pages and I virtually never read posts from say the laser forum or turning forum because they just aren't subjects that interest me. Nothing against the people who post there.

Top center is a neglected by many button called "New Posts"

I use it regularly when browsing.

Mark, I knew that button and option is available. I guess I phrased my question wrong - it should have been..."why would you want to get all new posts?"

My link takes me to the Classifieds forum first, and then from there, I just use the drop down at the bottom of the page to quickly go to the 5 or so forums I frequent, and any threads with new posts are highlighted. Unless there is something of interest, I just move on to the next forum.

This is a post of mine from last year, but it explains how to filter very well. Once you enter in all the numbers for the forums, just save it as a favorite. Of course, there are a few new forums which have been added since this post, but all the ones listed are still valid.
