I have a USA made Delta 14" with riser that does a great job. Using a Timberwolf 1/2" 3tpi blade makes a smooth cut if you're not in a hurry.

G0513X; best bang for the buck IMHO. A search here on 'G0513' will net you a lot of results. I regularly resaw cherry, paduok, beech, walnut, maple, blah, blah, blah in 3" - 10" heights.

Abram,

What do intend to resaw? This might make a difference.
Will it be a one-time thing, or part of your everyday work?
If often, are you likely to be using a power feeder?
Will you truly need resaw capacity of 12 inches? Although I have a 17-inch Grizzly, with this capacity, I have never really needed more than about 8+ inches.

Your answers to these questions, and possibly others, may determine what class of machine to get. While some of the smaller band saws might be fine for the occasional job, you might need a larger machine. Again, it will likely depend on your intent.

Abram,

I've got the Rikon 18" and have resawn white oak, maple, mesquite etc. up to about 10". It took a while to get it tuned, but the lower wheel has 4 bolts on the back to adjust the wheels to be co-planer. The blade will now track on the center of the wheels with no tracking adjustment needed. Only one of the guides (the lower rear bearing) has any micro adjustment, so setting the guides isn't as easy as some. I do like the way the blade rides on the rear guide bearings, on the sides instead of the face. The 2.5 HP is also a real plus, and the dust collection is far better than most bandsaws I've seen. You will probably need a better resaw fence than the stock fence, though. The resaw bar isn't very tall.

Every few months it seems that Woodcraft puts them on sale, and they haven't been for a while, so that may be coming up shortly.

I use a 14" powermatic, because its what I own, and was at the time I bought it the best one I could afford. If I had my CHOICE, I would be using an Aggazini, maybe a big Tannewitz. But the little guy will get the job done until the cash tree blooms again and the ceiling in my shop grows taller.:D

Check out Steve Rozmiarek's shop; he's got a modest little machine made somewhere out in the Rustbelt that might be able to handle a bit of resawing. If you go slowly.

513x2!! Timberwolf 3tpi. Like a hot knife thru butter. Just did some 8" ash and it doesn't even flinch. Don't have a need for 12", but I feel confident it would not be a problem.

G0555 w/their cheap blade, cut some 8" walnut without any problems, a Twolf would probably be fantastic

Used to use a Powermatic 14" w/ riser block then I moved to an Agazzani B-20 w/ 1" Lennox Tri-Master. Couldn't be happier--that machine makes me smile each time I turn it on. Smooth, massive, nice table, and can tension that blade very well. The surface of cut faces is good enough that it's very easy to (hand)plane them smooth.

I do wish I had room to keep the Powermatic though. That was a great machine for smaller work (and smaller blades).

I went from a 14" Delta with riser block and a vibration problem to a G0513X2. Great BS at a great price.
