This is from some Box Elder Burl that had the outside surface weathered and gray. Beneath the surface the wood was still fresh looking. It has a void on each side. It's 9.5" x 6.5" and finished with Danish Oil and Deft Lacquer.

That is really cool Curt! Great form, texture and color! Reminds me of some ancient pottery! Also like your use of a nature opening - just adds to the overall effect! Very nice work! Great imagination!

Curt, The voids are cool! I like to leave holes and inclusions in lots of what I turn it adds character and shows the skill of the turner! Nice shape a pretty wood.

I was looking at the pics thinking that they looked absolutely ancient...like a pottery artifact recently discovered.

Then as I scroll through the responses, I see that Steve Schlumpf had the same thought. Imagine that!

That IS a work of art. Great form, texture, color... just generally interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Heck of a job Curt. Who would think that something with a hole in it before turning could end up looking that good. I have not progressed to that level yet!

That is one beautiful looking HF Curt. What hollowing tools are you using?

Thanks everyone!

Jonathan, I hollow with a combination of home made hollowers and a Robert Sorby swan neck tool, all just the hand held stuff.
