I like Elmer's Stainable wood glue, but I rarely stain things. It's good for gluing and filling knots in pine at the same time. It has a medium brown color when it dries, which I find more pleasant that the always-too-light color of "natural" wood filler.

Never used it but, I rather suspect that to get it to take stain they had to make it porous and that means trade off's.

I use the stainable as well as the exterior glue all the time. I like Old Elmer. It has never failed me. I do use titebond from time to time though. 2 part epoxy is good for things if you don't mind mixing it. The same for plastic resin glue. Gorilla glue on the other hand I found to be useless for my purposes. Best wishes.:)

I think I bought it at Lowes but I go to so many hardware stores that I get confused.

One time I bought a bottle of Elmer's glue called "Nano Glue". Haven't seen that one for sale since then and I don't know where I bought it. I think it was one of the much-despised urethane glues.
