Last fall our daughter bought a condo. It was old and ill maintained so she asked us, my wife and I, to do the cabinetry for the place. In the kitchen we built new upper cabinets, doors and drawers for upper and lower cabinets. We refaced the lower kitchen cabinets and also refaced the two bathroom vanities. Our daughter and her boy friend did the finishing. We converted one lower cabinet to drawers and created the corner upper cabinet.
If the carcass is sound the the lay out is good, refacing is a good choice.
I have some photos on a Yahoo profile if you want to see pics.
