It is not artistic, unusual nor impressive; however, it is something that I actually made besides shavings. I have not had a lot of time for round work since getting my lathe and all that time has been spent getting a feel for the tools.

The wood is maple and I tried a roughing gouge, bowl gouge, fingernail gouge, skew, round nose scraper and the tool itself without the handle, just the bar. Actually, I ended up doing most of the work with the tool, didn't think I would live long enough to do it with the skew. I did use the skew and fingernail along with the tool for most of the work. Only used wax to finish. The apparent discoloration in the shaft is a reflecting from a chair, the steel is polished to 400 grit.

The finished tool worked great on a piece of semi dry red oak. In case anyone is interested, the cutter is one from my planer cutter head by Byrd. Four cutting sides, slightly concave and the last I checked, cost less that $5.00.

I like the design. Reminds me of bamboo.
