I had some Zebrawood that LOML said she wanted turned into a bowl of some kind. I got her to help with designing the shape and the feature ring. Here is the result. Woods are Zebrawood, walnut, maple, black alloewood and holly. 7.25" x 8" x 3/16" wall finished with 4 coats of tungoil. Comments and critiques welcome. Oh, and yes she is pleased with it.

I would have thought that type of pattern in a zebra wood bowl would be too busy - but this looks great!

Mike - that is quite the combination of woods! It is busy but looks great! Also like your photos!

Mike,
I really like your choice of woods on this Vessel. It is very striking and you seldom see such color combination's. I especially like the feature ring symmetry. Your segmenting talent just keeps on growing. The fit is excellent and the form is good also. Very well done. Thanks for sharing.

That is awesome. Even my weird wife who doesn't care for bowls, hfs etc went WOW! She is jealous and said to me; "why don't you make one of those for me!"

My response...."Yah, right!" *LOL*

Mike, The Zebra wood segments look very nice and the center band just adds enough change in the colors to bring your eyes to it. The shape is nice and your wife should be very happy!

Thank you all for your kind words, as a few of you pointed out Zebrawood tends to be very busy and that was my concern when designing the feature ring. I wanted to use woods that didn't contrast too much but still enough to stand out. Just like solid wood turnings you never realy know what the finished product will look like until you put the finish on the wood. I have to confess I was a little worried but I should know better than to second guess the boss:eek:
