I saw a note in blog about a new Makita saw that was released this spring. It is a 10" slider with a much different design that the LS1013 and 1214 saws. Has anyone looked at one in a store or used one yet? did a simple search on ls1016 and found no info

Thanks Ed

No I haven't seen any new design but I am about to pull the trigger on a new Hitachi 10", so maybe I'll wait and see what they come up with. PM me if you find some information.

Thanks Larry

If it's blue-green, it's a winner..... They don't make junk, as fas as I know. Every once in a while I just hope my vintage DeWalt 12" would die, just so I can buy something new and cool like that. But the DeWalt is a good saw. Can't give it up yet.

Thanks Ben and Dave. I should have posted those links as well. I was hoping a forum member had actually seen or used one. It looks like a nice package. My main complaint about my LS1214 is the difficulty I have setting square..especially the fence. That final snugging of the bolts moves things. I have a small work around where I put two thinner washers under the bolt heads to act a thrust washers. I prefer fixed fences and a movable hardened index plate. Like Dewalt, Milwaukee..and I think the Kapex uses.

I couldn't down load the user manual yesterday due toa site issue at makita.com. will do this tonight!!

Thanks
Ed

I found this: http://tool-rank.com/tool-blog/manufacturer-news/makita-has-a-new-10%E2%80%9D-slider-with-twice-the-rails-20090416436/

I do think the stops at 45 degrees on the flat are a problem. I always cut between 43 and 47 degrees for baseboard miters. I would have to look to see if it can be modified before I buy one, but I do like the look of it. There is a July 15 availability on the CPO site.

I like the look of the fences, but again I woould want to see them in person, or use the saw myself. My local lumber yard lets me try stuff so I'll have them send one out when they get one. If it is close to the Kapex and 38% of the price I think they have a winner. I have a couple of Makita saws and they are stone cold dependable, and once tuned they stay accurate.

From what the Rockler guys tell me here, you don't want that saw to be anything like the Kapex. They don't like the saw one bit. I was told it was innacurate and there were problems like blade flex and clunky settings that you don't expect on a $1300 saw.

It's hard to beat a Makita or a Hitatchi.

I would think that the 45 deg. bevel stops could be adjusted to run past 45 and stop at 47 deg. You just wouldnt have the marking on the bevel gauge. I adjusted my 1212 to do the same thing

The table on it looks much smaller than my LS1013FL, the thing that attracted me to mine in the first place...

Table does look smaller to me also. I love my LS1013. I sold a 12" Dewalt compound to buy this one and have never looked back. The accuracy is dead on to me but I mostly do cabinet type work with only crowns for the tops of cabinets.
