Why is it..

...that some posts with pictures show a little attatchment icon and others don't? Just curious.

Great question. Easy answer. The attachment icon only shows...when the pictures are posted as an attachment. Those posts that have pictures without the icon are displaying the pictures by linking to them at another web site. The latter method allows for more creativity within the post...annotation, etc...but does not preserve the pictures in the thread should they "disappear" from the remote site or become inaccessable there for any other reason. In most cases, it's recommended to include pictures as an attachment, despite the fact that they just tack on at the end of a post or reply. Why? That way they become part of SMC and will always be there when you go "creek diving" into the past!

Jim is exactly correct. When a post is made that has pics with out the attachment icon, those pics may eventually do away due to people removing the pics from their web "spaces". When the pics are "attached" to the post, they will always be with the post from now on.
