I recently read an article, beleive it was Wood mag, about a product for sealing the cut edges of MDF before painting. I think it was a titebond (Franklin) product. Does anyone know where I saw it or what the product was?
Thanks

I just use an oil base primer like Zinzer. (It is really lacquer, so get some lacquer tinner or acetone to clean the brush or roller.) One coat over the whole thing, couple coats on the edge. A little sanding and you are good to go.

I posted this exact question a few weeks back when I was making my motor cover for my TS. There were many, many choices.

I used some shellac, as it is quick drying, and I could get a few coats on quickly. I'm sure a laquer would work as well, but I find the odor to be offensive, whereas I kinda like the smell of shellac :)

I think Kilz is shellac based.

Actually, if you are referring to Zinsser BIN Primer Sealer, I think it is shellac based as well. If I recall correctly, on the label it says "white pigmented shellac". I have used it before (although not on MDF) and it works really well. I think that they make a water based version as well, but I have never used it.

Take a look here:

BIN Primer Sealer (http://www.zinsser.com/product_detail.asp?ProductID=10)

BULLS EYE 1-2-3 (http://www.zinsser.com/product_detail.asp?ProductID=11)

You are right. Brain fart. Maybe I used too much of it in a closed space. :D
