I am in the market for a good, solid carpenter's type square.

Basically, the big "L".

It will be used primarily for setup, but a rule on it would be nice. I have a decent engineer's square on the way, but I want this to lay flat.

I have a cheapo one that I got from the BORG, and I know how to square it up, but I would like something aluminum (or steel?) and a bit thicker (1/4" ?).

I also don't want to break the bank (so, < $50 would be best).

Anything come to mind?

How about for solid straight edges also?

Thanks

Jamie, there's some good info in this thread;

I bought the Lee Valley, it's a very nice square.

Perusing some other threads, I found exactly what I was looking for:

the "Precision Indicating Squares"

Thanks, All!

I have the lee valley. If you need a bigger square, as carpenter squares go, its top notch.
