So....

Once upon a time there was a movie called "Kung Pow: Enter the Fist." It's just about the cheesiest movie of the modern era. It's asinine and has no cinematic merit whatsoever. And I loved every frame of it. Kind of like the movie Beerfest. So bad, it's good. (And that's hard to do for a comedy.)

What I loved MOST about Kung Pow was the title music. I went as far as to buy the DVD just so I could stream the end credits music to my MP3 player.

Last week, LOML and a friend were watching the movie Serendipity on TV. A band played a tricked out version of the Kung Pow title music. I snapped my attention to the TV so fast I almost got whiplash.

Only then did I learn that this was a real band playing a real song.

That band is called Mint Royale. The song is called "From Rusholme with Love."

I bought their entire discography. It arrived yesterday, courtesy of Amazon. As I sit here, listening to track after track of sheer awesomeness, I wonder to myself, "Why do I have to learn about bands like this by accident? Why do I never hear anything this good on the radio?"

I've been listening to Mint Royale for two hours straight. There is not one throwaway song in their collection.

Oh, and if Mint Royale does it for you, check out a band called Pink Martini. Another group made of complete win, which I found by accident. Bought all of their CDs as well. Excellent.

YouTube or Imeem both bands if you like jazz, Steely Dan or the rat pack.

Love all of the above (Steely Dan particularly) so thanks for the tip!

What'd you think?

PS -- My 2009 Steely Dan tickets arrived last week. Pearl Theater at the Palms casino. I've seen them twice, and it's worth every penny. Alan Parsons Live Project shortly thereafter. And if Jeff Wayne doesn't bring his War of the Worlds show to the US soon, I am flying abroad to see it. That show is on my bucket list.

The Eagles were also on my bucket list, but I never could connect. Now they say they're never going to play together again. Bastards!

I'll have to get back to you, Eric, as I haven't had a chance to give them a listen. I promised myself if the Eagles ever reunited I would go to see them. Saw them in Atlanta on the Hell Freezes Over Tour stop. I saw them again three or four years ago in Charleston and, with the exception of Eric Clapton's performance around that same time, it was one of the best concerts I've attended.
