So....
Once upon a time there was a movie called "Kung Pow: Enter the Fist." It's just about the cheesiest movie of the modern era. It's asinine and has no cinematic merit whatsoever. And I loved every frame of it. Kind of like the movie Beerfest. So bad, it's good. (And that's hard to do for a comedy.)
What I loved MOST about Kung Pow was the title music. I went as far as to buy the DVD just so I could stream the end credits music to my MP3 player.
Last week, LOML and a friend were watching the movie Serendipity on TV. A band played a tricked out version of the Kung Pow title music. I snapped my attention to the TV so fast I almost got whiplash.
Only then did I learn that this was a real band playing a real song.
That band is called Mint Royale. The song is called "From Rusholme with Love."
I bought their entire discography. It arrived yesterday, courtesy of Amazon. As I sit here, listening to track after track of sheer awesomeness, I wonder to myself, "Why do I have to learn about bands like this by accident? Why do I never hear anything this good on the radio?"
I've been listening to Mint Royale for two hours straight. There is not one throwaway song in their collection.
Oh, and if Mint Royale does it for you, check out a band called Pink Martini. Another group made of complete win, which I found by accident. Bought all of their CDs as well. Excellent.
YouTube or Imeem both bands if you like jazz, Steely Dan or the rat pack.
