OK.....many of you have dealt with me on this and the rest of you have at least read of my many delima's in figuring out how to make these simple little stools and have them look like the original in both heigth and width.

Well....here they are:

Needless to say....LOML has plans for me making more of these. It will be a lot easier for the next batch since I have all the jigs made and ready for re-use..... :)

Just When do you sleep, boy?

Are there rules about posting too many completed projects in "X" amount of time? There should be. Put me down for 2 stools.

I thought there was another convention about only working on the weekends. I'm single but what about these poor married guys with thier wives looking over their shoulders. Their wives are going to say "Look at this Dennis Guy. You've been planting your butt in a barco lounger all week".

Dennis -

But they are not identical! On some the lower stretchers are on the right and left - on others the lower stretchers are on the front and back. :D :D

Nice job on the repeatability. Looks like you got it figured out.

Dennis,

Good looking stools. Now all you gotta do is build some stools with backs on them and you're in the chair making business!

Zack,

Dennis has been doing much more that you even realize. He has spent countless hours of web design on my web site at the same time he was making the stools and the table and the coasters and the salt and pepper shakers and the.....on and on.....

Don't know how he does it. He is making the rest of us "loafers" to use your words look really lazy.

Now....if he just told you the caliper story you would really be impressed.

Well....are you gonna tell the rest of the world the story Dennis????? huh...are you????

OK...Ok.....I'll tell.................Here's the story.

I was using my lathe to make the stool legs and I used a set of outside calipers to turn the tenon on the legs to the correct size. I got the calipers adjusted and all set and set them aside. Since it was about 2AM I figured I had better go to bed before I had to go to my REAL job......

Needless to say.....I didn't make it back out in the shop to work the stools for a couple of days. I finally got back in the shop to work on the legs and get them all turned.....YUP....there was my calipers...right where I left them.....(well I thought any way). To make a long story boring......I turned all TWENTY (20) legs using the calipers to turn the tenons. The next night, I went out in the shop to start the assembly work.

Pick up 4 legs and some stretchers to do a dry fit.....guess what? The tenons on the legs were way too BIG!!! Well LOML came out in the shop to help me and I broke the news to her. She broke the news to me that the KIDS had been in the shop earlier to get their bicycles......Well.....Daniel (my youngest, just turned SIX) thinks he can tinker with stuff in the shop while he has access. He decided to "tweak" my calipers to see how they worked and put them back down close to where I put the originally. I failed to check them for the correct diameter and used the current setting to turn all the tenons. :(

It took LOML and I about 6 hours to fix all the tenons and get them to fit......only AFTER I made another JIG to work on my router table to aid us in cutting the tenons down to the correct size..................................And now......you have the rest of the story!!!!

Lesson has been learned.....always check calipers before using, each and every night!!!

I guess I will be seeing you on Saturday.

Dennis,

I'll have to pass as I am on call this weekend. That, and SWMBO has a really long list for this weekend. Thankfully, most of it is outside work since the weather is supposed to be nice this weekend.

I have to say that every time I read about Dennis' work, it motivates me to work harder and harder. I think that's one of the main benefits of the creek to me, keeping me connected with other folks like me. Without that connection it would be harder for me to keep focused and motivated!

Nice Stools!!

Being a Veterinarian, I have the opportunity to look at stool every day. I think yours is much better to look at and more comfortable to sit on. yuck!

It's Friday, what do you expect!

tennons too small. :D Even though it took a bunch more time, you can be greatful (?) that you didn't have to turn new tennons or plug and recut mortises.

I wonder if you had locked the calipers would the little guy have figured out how to unlock it? But the best bet is to check it anyway.

Cool stools guy. MUCH better than RJ's warm ones!
