What would be the best way to attach a table top to avoid splitting of the wood from wood movement?
Thanks

I'll assume legs and aprons; figure eight connectors are easy. Clips are available that attach to the top and slip into slots you provide along the apron inner wall. Shop made clips can be used as well.

Figure-eight connectors, shop-made buttons (little wood bits that screw to the top and stick into slots in the aprons), screws in reamed-out holes, sliding dovetails. There are probably other options as well.

I used these brackets on my top, the figure 8s work also but these were easier for me. The problem I had was I made the table and top and then realized I need to let the top move.

I used a brisket cutter to cut some slots in the apron and put them on.
