I got some shop time today and made this juniper vase. It's the biggest thing I've hollowed so far. The wood was kind of moist in the middle of the piece. It's got quite a few little checks, I suppose from all the knots. It had some real tearout problems, it's really soft wood. Anyway, it was fun! Measurments are 5" tall and 41/2" wide at the widest point, walls are about 1/4" thick. I think I'm going to put some dried flowers in it. Thanks for looking.

I think it might be eastern white cedar, looks a lot like a ton of stuff I have in my basement. It definitely tears out a lot, the sharpest tools and it still tears out for me. It looks like you got it all under control though, that is a pretty vase. Nice job.

Chris,
Very nice looking Vase. I really like all the knots and inclusions on the piece, they really add character. Juniper takes a finish very well.

Looks great Chris!

I like the golden color of the wood and the knots and stuff. Even the minor checking gives the piece an country look to it.

Nice piece Chris. I like how the dark-colored knot/pitch pocket shows in the curve of the vase's neck, I imagine that was a challenge to work with. I've got a few pieces of juniper drying in the shop right now and this makes me want to try them out!
