I need to make a small bathroom cabinet 48" tall X 9" wide by 6" deep that will be wall mounted in a recess. The bathroom has a steam shower and in spite of the fan gets a lot of moisture. Solid wood or baltic birch for the carcass-- which will hold up better? The door will be frame and panel.

Plywood has far less movement compared to solid wood doesn't it?

Either choiuce will only hold up if properly sealed and finished. You'll want to finaish all surfaces, inside and out with a good layer of polyurethane. Make sure all surfaces get sealed.
